” Now, it would seem that lawmakers are listening and taking notice to those patients who have seen tremendous benefits from this benign herb…”
Why be excited about Kratom regulation?
Remember the late 1990’s when everybody was taking ‘natural’ supplements for weight loss and energy? It was a time when you could get herbal supplements at any store that promised to make you lose weight or be more productive, ‘naturally.’ And everyone was excited about these so called ‘no risk all reward plants’ in pill form. However, shortly after, people started dying from these ‘safe, all-natural pills’ and the FDA had to step in and shut them down. The problem was not that the natural medicine was harmful, but that what was in the pills was not all natural, it was ephedrine. A cheap chemical manufactured in mass quantities in China and sent to the US to be repackaged by retailers who were out to make a quick dollar and indifferent to the health of their customers. In the last few years this has also been happening with Kratom, and its hurting the industry and the people in need of the benefits this plant provides.
In 2004, Reuters reported that 10, 326 people in the US had been poisoned by Ephedrine in 2002, most thinking they were taking safe, natural supplements. Most of the victims had never heard of ephedrine, and there was no indication on the bottle which said it had been added. Later, third party analyses of energy pills sold openly claiming to be herbal were found to have 0% of the herb stated on the label, and contained only ephedrine and cutting agents. This is also now happening in the Kratom and CBD industries as certain unsavory companies are putting profit over customers well-being.
Kratom Customers and Producers are fighting for regulation
As reported by ABC News 4, lawmakers in Utah are working with the Kratom producers, and over 1 million local users to make sure that only people selling pure Kratom are able to be in market. The movement began as news stories around the country started to demonize the plant due to people having negative reactions (Please read: Is Kratom Safe, CDC Report), and policy makers in states such as Ohio started initiatives to ban it. Users from all over the country started movements to prevent the banning of the medicine which was helping them when others had failed.
Now, it would seem that lawmakers are listening and taking notice to those patients who have seen tremendous benefits from this benign herb, and from the honest companies which sell them. The push for the FDA to regulate the herb is geared towards ensuring that there is a third party in place to guarantee that no companies are unscrupulously putting dangerous additives into their product, or selling products claiming to be Kratom but having none of the herb inside, as was done with herbal supplements in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. The proposed law, Senate Bill 58, “Kratom Consumer Protection Act,” introduced by Utah Senator Curtis Bramble (R) is so far unopposed and looks poised to pass successfully.
What are we doing?
We at Klarity Kratom are in support of this initiative. It will help prevent Kratom from becoming demonized in the press and potentially making it harder for patients in need to get their medicine. We already know that the product is safe and has helped millions of people for thousands of years (Please read: Thailand Legalizes Kratom) , but when it is mixed with other substances, or when other substances are sold as Kratom, people get hurt. If this deception becomes pervasive in the industry it harms everybody involved. We have always been a company dedicated to the purity of our product and the good health of our customers, and with any luck there will soon be a third party to confirm this fact, and to keep the criminals out of the Kratom industry.
